Who can receive grief support from Mission Hospice?

Mission Hospice provides grief support for people who are grieving or facing the death of a loved one. Free support groups and workshops are available to family members of Mission Hospice patients in California and to bereaved individuals living within Mission Hospice’s service area on the San Francisco Peninsula and in the South Bay.

Mission Hospice offers individual grief counseling, support groups and workshops, phone support, educational resources, referrals, grief support videos, a lending library, resources for children, and an annual Day of Remembrance. Available programs are designed to help people understand grief, express their feelings, and find support as they adjust to life after a loss.

Yes. Mission Hospice offers individual grief counseling by phone or video for family members of Mission Hospice patients, including adults and youth. Family members of hospice patients receive eight sessions at no cost. Additional sessions are $100 each. Due to state licensing requirements, counseling is available only to eligible family members living in California. Mission Hospice can provide referrals and resources for people outside California.

Yes. Mission Hospice offers free virtual and in-person grief support groups and workshops. Offerings include drop-in groups as well as groups focused on particular experiences of loss. Programs and schedules change throughout the year, so check the Support Group Calendar for current opportunities.

Grief support groups provide an opportunity to connect with others who are experiencing loss. Facilitated by Mission Hospice professionals, groups create a supportive environment where participants can share experiences, express feelings, and find connection with others navigating grief.

Yes. Mission Hospice provides grief support resources for children and teens, including individual counseling for eligible family members, grief kits for children, educational materials, and books for children available through its lending library. Mission Hospice recognizes that young people experience and express grief differently and provides support appropriate to their needs.

Mission Hospice can help you learn about the grief process, express your feelings, talk about the person who died, work through the stresses and anxieties that can come with changing roles and responsibilities, and identify your own strengths as you move through grief.
