We invite you to join Mission Hospice & Home Care and Avenidas for the following Day of the Dead series offerings:

All offerings will be taking place at Avenidas in Palo Alto. For more information on each offering, please check out the information below:

Community Altar (Ofrenda)

October 23 – November 3 | Weekdays 9-5pm

Drop in, registration is not required.

Contribute to our Community Altar! We invite you to stop by the Avenidas lobby anytime between Monday, October 23rd to Friday, November 3rd — open weekdays from 9-5pm. Add a photo, memento, and/or note to the altar space as a way to honor and remember your departed ancestors and loved ones. The front desk team would be happy to make photocopies for you, if needed, and answer any questions!

Items that you might contribute to the community altar: photos, poems, drawings, dried flowers, small momentos like rocks/crystals/stones, battery operated candles, small crafts, small colleges, and etc. 

Items we ask that you do not leave at the community altar: Perishable food, alcohol, valuable items (while it will be monitored by staff, items left at the altar will be accessible to the public). 

 

Calling in the Ancestors: Soul Collage Workshop

Tuesday, October 24 | 1-3pm

Registration is required. To learn more and register, visit here. 

This workshop is in honor of our ancestor “guides”, and in memory of loved ones more recently lost. No art experience necessary, only a willingness to explore with an intuitive collage process. Led by Chistine Kovach, LCSW, Bereavement Services Manager at Mission Hospice.

Supplies will be provided. Adults of any age are welcome.

 

Film Screening & Discussion, “Spoiler Alert”

Wednesday, October 25 | 6-8:30pm

All are welcome. No pre-registration required. Email LGBTQ@Avenidas.org for more information about this program.

Every month, the Avenidas Rainbow Collective will screen movies that appeal to the LGBTQ community. Enjoy free admission, popcorn, and beverages! Community discussion to follow film screening, led by a Mission Hospice team member.

Day of the Dead Altar Exhibit & Open-Mic Night

Friday, November 3 | 4-6pm

Join us for a special Dia de los Muertos/Day of the Dead celebration! We’ll kick the evening off with complimentary refreshments and a happy hour exhibit of our Community Altar (Ofrenda). Following that, we’ll move into the attached ‘Blue Room’ space for The Final Curtain: An Open-Mic Night on Death, Dying, and Grief.

Grab a friend, or come solo and meet friends, and gather ’round for art, poetry, prose, music, and more! Stop by for any portion of the program. Visit the registration page if you want to sign up for a performance slot.
