Rachel Joy Tancioco, LVN

Grew up: I grew up in Tondo Manila, Philippines.

Joined Mission Hospice: I initially joined Mission Hospice in August 2018 as a nurse at Mission House. Since then, I have been honored to serve in multiple positions, including as Dr. Salpeter’s office nurse, morning triage nurse, intake lead, field nurse, and now, after hours nurse.

Why I came to Mission Hospice: Originally a Business major, I worked as a bookkeeper for 18 years at Home Depot before deciding to switch careers. The experience of caring for my grandmother (who received hospice care in a skilled nursing facility) was the driving force for me to become a nurse. I told myself that with the proper skills and knowledge, I could make a difference by providing quality care to vulnerable patients and their families.

Family: I belong to a small family that started migrating to the US in 1989.

Hobbies: I am fond of watching Korean dramas and concurrently passionate about educating future LVNs.

Reading: Nursing books! I am constantly keeping myself up to date on nursing practices and ways to be more effective as a nursing instructor.

Favorite food: I love to eat and explore different cuisines but am most fond of sushi.

Little known fact: I am a single mother, and my pride and joy is my 18-year-old daughter who is pursuing a career in Social Work and is currently volunteering to teach sex education to high school students.

On my bucket list: A few of the things on my bucket list are visiting Paris, France; becoming an RN and CHPLN; and buying a small condo that I can consider my own.
