Amy Caparas, RN, BSN

Grew up: Philippines

Joined Mission Hospice: November 2007

What led me to hospice work: I’d worked in different areas of nursing, but I was looking for something that was more personal. When I lived in Los Angeles, I did some part-time hospice work, then quit my full time and focused with hospice care. I loved how it was beyond “hello” and “goodbye.” My analogy is that we (hospice staff) serve as navigators for families and patients; they are in control – we just provide the routes and options they need for their journey.

Hobbies: Basketball and DJing

More about me: After I played basketball, I became a basketball coach. My role at Mission Hospice reminds me of coaching: we work together according to a game plan that requires strategy and camaraderie, much like any team.
