Linda Wohlrabe, MSW - Director of Quality and Operations

Linda Wohlrabe’s job since August as director of quality and operations is quite different
from her tenure as interim director in 2007- 2008, when she was charged with preparing
the organization for its next permanent executive director.

“It was my first experience with hospice, although I’d worked in clinical programs before
and with seniors,” she said. “But then, I think our maximum number of patients in those
days was about 30 (it’s about 60 now plus Home Care).”

Today, the program is well past the rebuilding phase, and Wohlrabe is now helping shape the organization’s future. Her broad responsibilities include overseeing this summer’s accreditation process, as well as organizing management systems and staff, data collection and research, and other internal procedures.

“There’s a lot still to do,” she said during a recent interview, “but we’re also getting a lot
done in terms of improving our electronic medical records.”

She also plans and tracks quality management information, currently focusing on home-care patient falls, oxygen-use safety and weighing patients.

Over the past 10 years, Wohlrabe has been interim executive director of half a dozen different social service agencies, but after her first experience at Mission Hospice, she knew she wanted to return to hospice work permanently.

“I really wanted to be planted and see the results of my efforts, and not just have the job of
cleaning up during a transition,” she said. As for Mission Hospice in particular, she said
she wanted to work with CEO Dwight Wilson, who she helped to recruit, and she likes that the organization is moving ahead with new programs while maintaining a grass- roots feeling.

“I’ve always worked in programs that dealt with a particular target population,” she added.
“Hospice is a conversation for everyone.”
