Mission Hospice & Home Care is strongly rooted in the diverse communities of San Mateo County. Our founders lived and worked in this county and the tradition of community investment continues today with our staff, volunteers, and board members. Our staff extends the reach of Mission Hospice & Home Care to those who need our services far beyond standard business hours. Indeed, members of our staff collaborate with the African American Community Health Advisory Committee and the Peninsula Clergy Network, and serve on the San Mateo County Committee for Minority Elders and the Committee on Aging. Others teach in local colleges and serve as trustees on local school boards. Our multi-cultural and multi-lingual staff and volunteers, a unique asset for Mission Hospice & Home Care, reflect the rich diversity of the county. We are proud to say that our hospice and Transitions patients, families, and friends feel a comfort level in knowing that the people at Mission Hospice & Home Care understand their background, culture, and customs. We believe that regardless of race, religious preference, or income level, everyone has the right to choose Mission Hospice & Home Care and to choose not to die alone. Through our community involvement and comprehensive Outreach and Education program, we strive to ensure that everyone knows their end-of-life care options.
The Mission Hospice & Home Care Community Outreach and Education Program includes, but is not limited to: Clinical Staff Presentations -- We actively seek opportunities to provide information about our services to clinical staff at agencies throughout San Mateo County, such as La Esperanza Vive Program and the Ben Franklin Resource Center. Community Forums/Seminars -- We offer annual forums with continuing education credits for medical professionals and the public about the many aspects of end-of-life care. Speaker’s Bureau-- Upon request, our specially trained volunteers and staff speak to civic organizations, such as Rotary, SIRS, Lions, and Kiwanis, and to church groups, such as St. Anthony of Padua Church in Menlo Park and Trinity Baptist Church in Daly City. In-Service and Continuing Education Support-- We provide in-service support and continuing education for clinical staff at Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly, hospitals, and similar agencies throughout San Mateo County. Higher Education-- Members of our staff teach classes at Skyline College and San Francisco State University on Death and Dying, Parent/Child Relations and end-of-life issues and care. In addition, our social workers collaborate with San Francisco State University to provide Mission Hospice & Home Care as a student internship site. “No One Dies Alone” Program-- In partnership with Mills/Peninsula Hospital, Mission Hospice & Home Care and hospital volunteers provide companionship and support to terminally-ill hospital patients who are alone without family or friends. If you would like more information about any of our free Community Outreach and Education programs, please contact Rev. Linda Siddall, Mission Hospice & Home Care Chaplain and Director of Spiritual Care at (650) 554-1000. |

We make it a priority to provide education about choices for end-of-life care to the African-American, Latino, and Asian communities. We also reach out to seniors living in Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly throughout San Mateo County and surrounding areas. While those who have experienced its benefits accept hospice care, many people are unaware of how we can help during this difficult time.
